Our Canadian Ingredients

As a Canadian company, we love that so many of our effective, innovative, and powerfully natural skincare ingredients are grown right here. You might be surprised to see which of our products have Canadian ingredients in them!

🍁 If you didn’t know, we’re Canadian.

Our founder is a Toronto local, and all our products are made in Ontario!

One perk of being a Canadian company? We’re incredibly lucky that many of the plant ingredients in our products are grown here.

Take a look at some of our Canadian-sourced ingredients, discover where they’re from, and learn why we love them.

Blueberry Seed Oil

We source our blueberry seed oil from British Columbia. Not only do we love that we get this ingredient from our great west coast, but it is also one of our upcycled ingredients. That means it’s a by-product of the juicing industry, and we get to put this fantastic ingredient to use when it would normally go to waste.

Blueberry seed oil has a number of phenomenal skin benefits. It's rich with antioxidants that help protect against free radical damage caused by UVA, UVB, and blue light exposure, and is filled with fatty acids that moisturize the skin.

You can find blueberry seed oil in Jade Moon Serum in combination with ingredients like prickly pear and goji that support the skin barrier, and Berry Rich, where the oil blends with probiotics and blue-green algae to deeply nourish, hydrate, and revitalize dry, dull skin.

Maple Sap Water

The most Canadian of all our ingredients, our maple sap water hails from Northern Ontario. We get it from the Carrick Brothers, who grew up making maple syrup from their grandfather’s sugar bush and now collect sap from over 46,000 trees.

Maple sap is a hydrating ingredient, and because it is so light, it hydrates without that oily feeling some heavier ingredients have. Maple sap water can rejuvenate skin cells, leaving your skin soft and revitalized with nutrients like calcium, iron, and magnesium. These nutrients sink into the skin, addressing inflammation and unwanted blemishes.

We opted to use maple sap water in our water-based serum, Supermoon, and our gentle cleanser, Aloe Milk, so even the water part of our formula is filled with skin-loving ingredients. It’s also in Skin Stuff, our ultra lightweight moisturizer designed for super sensitive skin.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil

Our meadowfoam oil comes from Prince Edward Island. Meadowfoam is a pretty flower with white petals and a buttery yellow center. Since the plant prefers cool, wet climates, PEI is filled with meadowfoam from early spring to early summer.

As a skincare ingredient, meadowfoam seed oil is filled with tocopherol, which makes it great in two different ways. The first is that meadowfoam helps your skin resist oxidative stress. The second is that meadowfoam is a naturally stable ingredient, meaning we don’t have to sacrifice efficacy to make our products shelf stable.

Meadowfoam seed oil is also a powerful emollient–it creates a protective barrier over your skin that keeps moisture in. It also offers a small amount of UV protection.

We use meadowfoam seed oil in Jade Moon Serum

Abyssinian Kale Oil

Our abyssinian kale oil also comes from Prince Edward Island. And just like meadowfoam seed oil, the kale seeds, when harvested and pressed, make a phenomenal emollient oil.

This oil is rich in erucic acid, which has gentle exfoliating properties, removing dead skin cells and helping with acne. It also rehydrates and protects dry skin. On top of erucic acid, abyssinian kale oil is also rich in vitamins A, B, C, and K–all antioxidants that benefit the skin.

Abyssinian kale oil can be found in Jade Moon Serum, where it helps to hydrate the skin and boost the lipid barrier.

Broccoli Seed Oil

Grown in the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, our broccoli seed oil has a unique combination of fatty acids that mimic the lubricative feel of silicone.

This cold pressed oil contains an amazing 'plant chemical' called sulforaphane, which has extraordinary detoxifying and antioxidative qualities. Broccoli seed oil is also hydrating, anti-inflammatory, and helps smooth and brighten skin thanks to it being rich in vitamin C. Despite being an oil, broccoli seed oil is non-comedogenic, making it great for oily and acne-prone skin.

Broccoli seed oil is also an amazing hair care ingredient. It gives the hair luster and incredible shine, while also helping smooth frizz. It’s a lightweight oil, meaning it won’t make your hair feel heavy or greasy.

You can find this oil in Phyto Clear to get all its skin benefits, and Matcha Mint Hair Smoothie to give your hair some sleekness and shine.

Lavender Oil

This essential oil is known for its comforting scent, but it also contains antioxidizing properties that fight free radicals. In aromatherapy, lavender can be used to reduce anxiety, stress, and promote sleep.

Lavender oil is a versatile anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial ingredient. It can ease sore joints and muscles, and can also help heal wounds and burns, prevent infection, and reduce scarring.

We love including lavender oil in our body care products because it’s the perfect way to get the most out of lavender's topical and aromatherapy benefits. You can find it in our All Over Soap and our All Over Body + Face Lotion. We also include it in Putty.

Oat Oil

Our oat oil hails from the Prairies. We love this ingredient because of how soothing and moisturizing it is, making it fantastic for dry and sensitive skin. That’s why it’s in some of our skincare products and our hair care products. The skin on your scalp needs some love, too!

Oat oil is both humectant and occlusive, as it draws moisture from the air into the skin, and contains ceramides that shield the skin from water loss.

The antioxidant-rich tocopherol (vitamin E) in the ingredient helps with skin longevity and circulation. Plus, it’s antibacterial and antimicrobial, fighting off bad bacteria and unwanted microorganisms. Oat oil is incredibly soothing to the skin, as well.

As a hair care ingredient, oat oil hydrates and soothes the scalp. You can find oat oil in Putty, Jade Moon Serum, and Matcha Mint Shampoo.

We’re Proud to Use Canadian Ingredients

It’s a huge source of pride to say we get many of our ingredients right here in Canada!

While we use plant-based ingredients from around the world, it’s amazing to know so many effective, innovative, and powerfully natural skincare ingredients are grown right here.
