Blue Majik smoothie with blue spirulina, kale, blueberries, magnesium and banana

Double Blue Majik Smoothie

Looking for a nutritious, yet delicious smoothie recipe? This Double Blue Majik Smoothie is both sweet and refreshing and packed with skin-loving ingredients.

The beginning of summer is my favourite time of year. It's a time for enjoying the warmth of the sun, new growth in the garden and refreshing drinks while taking in blue skies. I associate this time of year with certain foods such as fresh berries and crisp leafy greens. These foods are seasonal and provide incredible anti-inflammatory benefits that support the body inside and out.

I have combined these fresh ingredients into a delicious drink and a special antioxidant-rich superfood called the Blue Majik blue spirulina smoothie. This smoothie has become one of my favourites. You can feel good about enjoying this one regularly at breakfast since the ingredients provide essential health benefits.

Superfood Ingredients

Kale is an important part of the nutrient-dense cruciferous vegetable family. It contains high amounts of sulphur compounds that support liver function and daily detox processes. If you haven’t tried this vegetable before, adding it to a smoothie is a great place to start.

Blueberries provide serious anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits that have been especially well documented. The phytochemical is responsible for their blue colour and the majority of their health benefits is the anthocyanin. These berries also contain high levels of antioxidant, vitamin C. Plant foods such as blueberries are important for improving overall health and are particularly supportive for the skin.

Magnesium is an essential mineral that is deficient in our soil and food, so many of us are lacking. Also, if you suffer from GI issues, you may not be absorbing it well. Magnesium is incredibly important for energy production, improving sleep quality, reducing stress and regulating cellular repair to strengthen our bones, joints and skin. The bis-glycinate form in this recipe is absorbed well by the body so that you can maximize its benefits.

Fun Fact: Find magnesium in Face Food.

Banana is a good source of silica, which helps to support collagen production in skin, hair, nails and joints. In addition, bananas are high in antioxidants, which help to protect your skin and body from oxidative stress. Bananas are also well known for their high potassium content, which helps the body regulate water balance in tissues throughout the body and may also support skin hydration.

Fun Fact: Find banana extract in Fullmoon Serum, Intimacy Oil, Putty, Face Glow and Berry Rich. Blue Majik is a dried extract of spirulina. Since it is a purified extract from blue-green algae, it has a bright blue pigment rather than the usual green spirulina. The phycocyanin compounds in spirulina provide antioxidant benefits that help reduce inflammation and hydrate the body’s tissues. It is also a great source of B vitamins that are important for metabolic pathways and energy production.

I’m excited to share this “double blue” smoothie with you. Its deep blue colour comes from both the Blue Majik powder and blueberries. The bananas give this smoothie a sweet, refreshing taste, while the protein and chia provide a good source of amino acids and fibre to help keep you full all morning long.

Double Blue Majik Summer Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 frozen banana

1 cup kale leaves

½ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)

1 capsule of magnesium bis-glycinate

¾ cup unsweetened oat milk

3 tbsp hemp protein powder

2 tbsp chia seeds

1 tsp Blue Majik powder (E3Live brand)

Directions:

  1. Place all of the ingredients in a high-speed blender. Ensure you open the magnesium capsule and only add the powder. Blend until combined and creamy. Use the blender tamper to get it started if necessary.
  2. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Tip: If you prefer a smoothie bowl, reduce the liquid to half a cup and pour the smoothie into a bowl. Top with your favourite toppings such as sliced kiwi, unsweetened shredded coconut, granola, etc.
