#AskGraydon: Can You Apply Serums Twice A Day?

That’s a great question and I’d love to answer it for you.

To put it simply, there’s no simple answer.

Whether you should use your serum once or twice a day depends on many factors. For example, it depends on what kind of ingredients are in your serums. It also largely depends on how your skin reacts to those specific ingredients.

Hey gorgeous 😍,

That’s a great question and I’d love to answer it for you.

To put it simply, there’s no simple answer.

Whether you should use your serum once or twice a day depends on many factors. For example, it depends on what kind of ingredients are in your serums. It also largely depends on how your skin reacts to those specific ingredients.

And that’s a general skincare fact. What works for someone else might not work for you.

For instance, imagine your aunt Kathy who’s 32 years old. She’s been using a 1% retinol serum in the morning and at night since her late 20s. Her skin looks silky and translucent. So you might think you should do the same if you want good skin, right?

Nope.

Retinoids are extremely potent. And as a beginner, your best bet would be to begin using a retinol serum at a low concentration once or twice a week and work your way up. This will help you to avoid the irritation that sometimes comes with using retinol.

Here’s another example, imagine your friend Ivy who has extremely dry skin. Like really, really dry. So to solve that, she uses an oil-based serum twice a day to keep her skin moisturized.

Now, it's quite possible that you don’t have the same skin type that Ivy does. Maybe your skin is a bit on the oily side. Or maybe you have acne-prone or combination skin. Depending on what ingredients are in Ivy's serum, using an oil-based serum twice a day may not be ideal for your skin type. At best, it might make your skin look more oily. And at worst, you might break out.

So as you can see, there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach to this.

The question you should ask yourself is not whether you can use a serum twice a day. Instead, you need to take a close look at both your skin type and skin concerns, and figure out what kind of ingredients you need to address your skin's needs. Then, work those ingredients into your skincare routine.

At Graydon Skincare, we currently have 2 serums: Fullmoon Serum and Superfood Serum

Fullmoon Serum is formulated with an extremely beneficial retinol-like ingredient called moth bean extract. In fact, no matter what type of skin or skin concerns you may have, you can most likely use this serum twice a day with no side effects. It’s that good!

Superfood Serum is a luxurious oil-based serum that’s a bit on the richer side. It’s best suited for those with dry or mature skin, but other skin types can use it too. And depending on your routine, you may only need to use it once at night to see results.
