Just like any other fads in life (remember Tamagotchi?), skincare trends also come and go. We had the ultra-extensive 10-step skincare craze and the 7-skin method where people would apply multiple layers of toner on top of each other.
A common point?
These approaches to beauty are no longer common or trendy.
However, recently, I’ve been noticing a skincare trend that, to be frank, I think is gonna be here to stay. In fact, dare I say, it’s gonna be the future of skincare?
I’m talking about waterless skincare.
So what does that mean? Here’s the simple definition: Waterless skincare are products that are formulated without water.
If you take a look at all the skincare products you own, chances are you’ll find water as one of the first three ingredients in the list (it’s likely even the first). This means those products contain mostly water in their formulas. In these cases, water acts as a solvent that dissolves some other ingredients in those products—helping to enhance their functionality, texture and sensorial attributes.
So if water has such an important function in skincare, why would we want to leave it out?
One word: Sustainability.
The truth is, water shortage is a serious concern all over the world. It’s estimated that 5 billion people will suffer from a lack of clean water by 2025. This is the result of population growth, agriculture and climate change.
Since there’s a huge demand for beauty products by consumers, including water in these products isn’t a healthy option for our planet.
Graydon Skincare prides itself on being an environmentally conscious brand. We see waterless beauty as a natural step to our brand ethos—aside from using more sustainable packaging and partnering with an eco organization.
We actually removed water from most of our products before waterless beauty was even a thing!
Don’t believe me? Just take a look at our collection of products. Aside from All Over Soap, All Over Face + Body Lotion, Face Food Mineral Mist and Matcha Mint Hair Smoothie, none of our other 13 products are formulated with any water. This means that over 75% of Graydon Skincare products are water-free!
Okay, now that might sound cool and all, but we didn’t choose the water-free route just for its sustainability. Waterless products actually have certain skincare benefits, too.
Waterless or water-free formulas tend to be more potent since there’s more space for us to include ingredients with actual skin benefits. Plus, they usually have an increased shelf life, so you can keep them around for longer without worrying about products going bad. That means you won’t have to toss your products out as frequently, which reduces the amount of trash.
Are you ready for skincare that’s as sensitive to the environment as it is to your skin? Give Graydon Skincare products a try. 🥰
