Why You Should Choose Your Cleanser Wisely

With so many cleansers on the market, it can be hard to know which one you should buy. Read on for our #1 tip for choosing a daily facial cleanser.

I've been involved in the skincare industry for many years and one of the things I've noticed is that many people don’t truly know how to cleanse their skin. And this is really unfortunate because cleansing is the foundation of a good skincare routine. This is why I came up with a step-by-step guide on how to properly cleanse your skin.

With that being said, using the right cleanser is of equal importance. If not more important.

So how do you find a cleanser that’s suitable for your skin? 🧐

Well, first we must talk about surfactants.

In scientific terms, surfactants are chemical compounds that lower the surface tension between two liquids, a gas and a liquid or a liquid and a solid.

What does this mean? And how does it relate to our discussion about cleansers?

Surfactants form the base of most cleansers and their function is to remove impurities from the skin.

Now here’s the catch 22. 👀

Surfactants can actually penetrate the skin, remove skin components, alter skin structure and temporarily degrade skin barrier functions. This is why, after having cleansed your skin, your skin might feel dry and tight. That’s not a good sign, as it means your skin has been stripped of its natural oils and essential moisture. And if this happens over a long period of time, it can cause some heavy damage to your skin.

This is why we recommend you choose a cleanser that does a good job of removing impurities, while still respecting your skin barrier function.

Understanding this, we set out to create a cleanser (well, two actually) to hit that sweet spot. And the result was Aloe Milk and Face Foam. Both of these gentle, yet effective cleansers are pH-balanced and formulated with plant-based surfactants to cleanse your skin without stripping it. And FYI, these surfactants are also environmentally-friendly and biodegradable.

But that’s not all.

We’ve also formulated these cleansers to include amazing ingredients that your skin will love. 🥰

Aloe Milk, which is especially great for those with dry, dehydrated skin, contains hydrating aloe vera, antioxidant-rich black tea and niacinamide (vitamin B3) to nourish and reinforce the skin. Face Foam, which is great for sensitive, normal-to-oily, acne-prone and combination skin, includes azelaic acid, natural BHA and bamboo extract to brighten and even your complexion with every wash.

For best results, I recommend double cleansing with both Aloe Milk and Face Foam to deeply cleanse your skin. Learn more about this method here
