Skin Hydration vs. Moisturization

Skin Hydration vs. Moisturization

Hydration is the amount of water content in your skin cells. Why does that matter to your skin's health? And how is that different from moisturization? We answer these important skincare questions!

In the world of skin care, hydration can be equated to the amount of water content in your skin cells. The more water, the more hydrated and vice versa. We often seek out skin hydration because it usually results in an overall plump, dewy and healthy looking complexion. This is because proper water content (hydration) helps reduce visible signs of aging (wrinkles) and increases proper cellular function (better cellular turnover).

Hydrated skin also helps keep oiliness at bay! Dehydrated skin stimulates oil production due to the lack of moisture. This is where the cycle of oily versus dehydrated skin begins. People try to combat oil by drying out the skin (drying agents found in conventional cleansers) which results in a long term battle of combating oiliness when the solution can be so simple. - Hydration!

Yes, there is a difference between hydrating and moisturizing.

Moisturizing is needed to help prevent trans-epidermal water loss. In other words, moisturizers work to help lock in moisture, and prevent important nutrients from evaporating off your skin’s barrier. Do you see how it’s all about balancing the cycle?

Moisturizing:

Ceramides are naturally occurring lipids that help with dry skin. Our Skin Stuff is a ceramide face + eye cream that helps to boost your skin’s natural barrier.

Hydrating:

We want ingredients that help bring water to cells like Hyaluronic Acid (HA). As a humectant, HA works to bring moisture deeper into the skin layers. Our Supermoon Serum is infused with HA.

Best of Both:

Balance your oiliness to dryness ratio by using our Face Foam + Aloe Milk Cleanser duo. They are both free of all drying agents, and will help boost your skin hydration + moisture while removing unwanted dirt and excess sebum.

To conclude - it is very important to note that drinking water and hydrating from the inside-out is the most important. Drink lots of water to cleanse your insides, boost health, improve brain function, and of course to help keep your skin glowing!
