Can Ceramides Repair Skin?

Can Ceramides Repair Skin?

Are you suffering from damaged sensitive skin? If you are looking for something to help soothe your unhappy face and lock in hydration, look no further than ceramides.

What are ceramides?

Ceramides are like the glue that holds your skin together. Which means they are super important to making you look and feel your best.

These lipids (fatty acids) help you maintain a healthy functioning skin barrier so your skin has a protective shield against pollution and other environmental stressors.

Ceramides are a class of fatty acids called lipids. About 50% of the outer layer of skin (epidermis) is made of lipids that hold skin cells together, forming a protective layer that plumps the skin and retains moisture.

Extreme changes in weather, pollution, dry indoor heat and excessive use of hot water can damage this protective layer, resulting in dryness or flaking. While ceramides are naturally produced in the body, production declines as we age.

Our ceramide levels can also take a hit if we use products that are too harsh which can throw off our skin’s pH balance.

Less glue and protection = less happy skin!

How do you prevent the loss of ceramides?

Lack of ceramides means our skin loses its ability to retain water (which can lead to skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis).

If your skin is looking a little worse for wear, adding ceramides can help restore your skin’s natural lipid levels and offer relief.

Try incorporating more leafy greens and add some avocados into your diet. These superfoods are full of good oils that will nourish your skin.

You can apply ceramides topically! Our Skin Stuff uses a vegan ceramide to lock in moisture. Apply this day or night and ideally after showering to reap the full benefits. This cream is ideal for those with dry or damaged skin. It is fragrance-free and dermatologist tested, which makes it safe for uber sensitive skin types!

Benefits of ceramides:

Having an adequate amount of ceramides can help your skin increase its ability to retain moisture if you have chronically dry skin, restore a damaged skin barrier and give you soft and supple skin.
