This Is Why You Need Blueberries In Your Skincare Routine
NOTE: No, we’re not biased just because they taste good 😋
Small but mighty.
Many of us LOVE blueberries. In fact, I’m sure that the summer season has already got you in a blueberries-craving kinda mood (understandable).
They’re just so yummy!
But did you know? They don’t just taste amazing, they’re also amazing in your skincare routine. Each tiny berry is jam-packed with a plethora of vitamins - ranging from powerhouses like Vit A, Vit B, Vit C, all the way to Vit E and Vit K.
What does all of this mean?
Lots and lots and lots of antioxidants. And as you may already know, antioxidants should be a stable part of everybody’s skincare routine. They protect you from damaging free radicals - the little troublemakers that will wreak havoc on your skin, leading to hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles.
But even better than that, blueberries can also protect your skin from blue light.
Turns out, you don’t only need to protect your skin from invisible UV light, but you also need to protect it from visible light. And a huge portion of visible light is blue light.
Where does blue light come from? Well, most of it comes from the sun (which is why sunscreen is so important!), but it can also come from the screens of your digital devices, like cellphones and laptops.
More and more, research has shown that blue light can be a danger for your skin. In fact, blue light in the 380 - 400 nm range is the most harmful. And long-term exposure to blue light can seriously damage your skin - leading to hyperpigmentation, inflammation, weakened skin barrier function. In other words? Premature skin aging. 😱
In a way, blue light emitting from your digital devices is even more harmful to you, since you’re usually very up close and personal with them.
Remember when we said blueberries are packed with antioxidants?
Well, as it turns out, aside from the explosion of vitamins, blueberries are also rich in protective phytosterols. These factors help blueberries do an exceptional job of protecting your skin against oxidative stress by neutralizing free radicals and external pollutants.
Together with all the other vitamins, blueberries really are powerhouses that help improve the condition and surface of your skin. They do this by aiding in the collagen synthesis process of the skin. And as we all know, more collagen means smoother, better-looking skin.
And that’s not all. Blueberries are also rich in essential Omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids, as well as linoleic acid and oleic acid. All of which help to further hydrate, nourish, and strengthen overall skin condition.
So how can you add blueberries to your skincare routine?
Staying true to Graydon Skincare’s belief in the power of superfoods, we’ve decided to incorporate the phenomenal power of blueberries into our products.
