Are You Cleansing Properly?

You are probably washing your face wrong.

And you’re not alone.

In fact, a skin survey has shown that at least 80% of people in America make at least one or more mistakes when cleansing their face. Some don’t even cleanse their face at all 😱 oh the horror!

This is especially important since proper cleansing is the foundation of a good skincare routine. So if you don’t cleanse properly, it may lead to problems like acne, dull skin, and your serums and creams won’t be able to do their magic as effectively.

I don’t want you to be one of them.

So today, let’s go over some of the ways that you might be doing incorrectly when you wash your face. And more importantly, how you can cleanse properly.

The first step to this routine might come as a shocker to some of you: Washing your hands.

This is extremely important, and I know some of you are not doing this. But you need to get rid of the impurities, the germs, the oil, the dirt on your hands - before touching your face.

The next thing that you need to keep in mind is making sure the water you use is lukewarm. If the water is too hot, that might strip your skin of its important oil and moisture - leading to a disrupted skin barrier. So remember, just lukewarm!

Here’s another thing to remember: Don’t rush the process. This is really your chance to slow down and work the cleanser into your skin. Give your cleanser a chance to really get into your pores and clear out all the impurities.

A rule of thumb? Take between 45 to 60 seconds to cleanse. This will make a world of difference.

With that out of the way, let’s focus on the fun part: Double cleansing. 😍

Sooo, what is it? Well, it is exactly what it sounds like. You’re gonna cleanse your skin twice. The first cleanse will soften and break down the impurities on your skin. And the second cleanse will rinse it all away.

But here’s the trick: You need to use different types of cleansers for this process.

For the first cleanse, you’ll want to use a micellar water, an oil cleanser, a balm cleanser, or a cream cleanser. For example, our Aloe Milk Cleanser does a really good job at removing makeup, dirt, and excess sebum - without stripping your skin of its natural moisture.

Apply it onto your dry face (using your dry hands) and massage it for about 30 seconds. Then rinse it off with water and move on to your second cleanse.

For your second cleanse, it’s up to you to choose the kind of cleanser you want. You could use a foam cleanser or a cream cleanser. I tend to use a foaming cleanser - like the Face Foam -  as it always manages to give me that good deep cleanse feeling. It also contains great active ingredients like salicylic acid and azelaic acid to treat your skin.

This time, wash your skin like how you normally would. Apply this on damp skin and spend around 30 seconds to really work the cleanser into your skin.

And that’s it. Give this method a try next time. Your skin will thank you. 😉
