Dermatologists will tell you...

It is estimated that 60% to 70% of skin cancer cases in Canada could be prevented if Canadians adopted healthier lifestyles.*

That kinda gets you thinking about the skincare you choose, especially these days being outside with warmer weather. There are many sun screen and bug protection options and it's easy to get confused: Do you need heavy spf coverage? Or is it actually good to get a little sunshine? Do natural bug sprays really work? And is it really worth exposing yourself (and the little ones in your life) to chemicals in sun protection that are linked to allergic reactions and endocrine disruption?

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

When choosing sunscreen, remember that your skin is your largest organ and it absorbs a high percentage of what you put on it. Read the label and make sure you are comfortable with the ingredients getting into your body.

A hat is a great way to protect your face from direct sunlight. It's also brilliant if you are having a bad hair day. Here are a few of my favorites. I always have one of these folded up in my bag!

You've likely heard something about Vitamin D being the 'sunshine vitamin' but what does that mean? Simply put, when UV rays from sun hit our skin, our body can begin to make Vitamin D, which is a vitamin integral to keeping our immune systems healthy and our bones strong. Using a heavy duty sunscreen can interfere with this process. Did you know that a *healthy* dose of sunshine may actually help prevent skin cancer?

If you want to take control of your outdoor protection needs, join us on June 25th in Marni Wasserman’s kitchen where you’ll learn how to make your own SUMMER ESSENTIALS including a sun protection cream and bug repellent oil. The ingredients we will be using to make these products work incredibly well, and are all backed up with research we’ll share with you.

If you are not in the Toronto area, we’ve still got you covered. Check out our own Sun Cream which is available at a selection of these fine retailers.

Yours in luxury and health,
